The deadline for submitting views to the Planning Inspectorate over the Gardens of Peace cemetery proposal has been extended to Friday 15th January 2016, thanks to pressure from Harold Wood Hill Park Residents’ Association (HWHPRA).
The original deadline for submissions was Monday 23rd November 2015.
Last year, Havering Council’s Regulatory Services Committee unanimously voted to reject the proposal to change the use of Maylands Fields to burial grounds.
In a speech to the committee, Cllr Alex Donald argued that the proposal for a cemetery would affect the Green Belt, does not provide enough information on flood storage, and is inappropriate as a location.
“Would you really want your loved one buried 20 miles away in a place that requires you to make possibly one of the most convoluted, most complicated, and most inconvenient journeys by public transport?”
Since then, Gardens of Peace have appealed to the Planning Inspectorate – the government body in charge of planning – to overrule the committee’s decision.
Many residents contacted their local RA councillors advising that they had not received any letters from the Council informing them of the appeal. Since then, the Planning Inspectorate have been contacted and they have agreed for the deadline to be extended to Friday 15th January while letters are resent.
HWHPRA has formally submitted our objections to the proposal.
