The Crossrail project and its works on the Great Eastern Main Line are progressing well and 2016 will be an exciting year for Harold Wood station. Last month Network Rail were due to install a new footbridge which will allow the existing footbridge to be removed and station ticket office refurbished. An alternative ticket office will be located on the car park while these works take place.
The new footbridge will give access to all platforms, and lifts to platforms1, 2 & 3, and 4, will provide step-free access from street to platform for the first time. The lifts are expected to open later in 2016.
A temporary works compound has been set up on the car park to enable these works to take place over the next year. We expect the works to be substantially complete by the end of 2016 and the car park to be reinstated soon after. There will be additional works will be taking place to improve the urban realm as part of a wider scheme of improvements led by Havering Council.
These upgrade works will help to deliver an improved travelling experience for passengers with quicker and more reliable journeys, new trains and better stations in preparation for the start of Crossrail services.
