Litter Fines Increase from April 1st

As from April 1st, the Council will be able to impose on-the-spot fines for littering of up to £150, nearly double the £80 previously allowed.

The Government says officers should give people the chance to pick up their litter and that issuing a fine should be proportionate to the offence.

Editor – “Litter is a blight on our environment and uses up valuable taxpayers’ money to clean up. With funding at such a premium, this money would be better spent supporting community services.

“The increased fine will need to be enforced in a fair but firm way and will send a clear message to litter louts that such anti-social behaviour is unacceptable.”
